across australia

When I told people that I was going to drive my 2006 Holden Barina from Perth to Melbourne with the majority of my belongings and one amazingly generous friend, people gawked.

The advice I received about stocking up on petrol and water and food made me think that I was back in the days of Burke and Wills taking on the unruly elements of the Australian outback.

When we arrived in Melbourne within 3 days, everyone was shocked, not just that we had actually made it, but that we made such good time.

And besides my car being a mess and the occupants needing a hot shower and a decent sleep in a real bed, the journey left us rather unscathed.

Here are some pictures documenting our incredible 3,469km journey from Subiaco to Berwick.

Enjoy

Packed to the roof and ready to go!
First night we made it to Norseman
In the morning we found this guy squashed into the front grill of my car...
guess that's what you get driving at night
We left ridiculously early from Norseman thanks to an early rising sun and made it across the Nullarbor in one fowl sweep - we camped on the foreshore in Ceduna, SA
The guy at the petrol station told us not to be expecting anything actually "giant" about the Giant Oyster, so when we actually found it we were astonished - it is big enough to jump in and pretend you're a mermaid
I took a bite whilst at the Great Australian Bight!
Due to a later start and many tourist stops along the way, we camped our third night in Keith, SA, next to some lovely Kangaroos.
A huge thanks to Deirdre, for without her this would not have been possible!

Also, thanks to all who have donated for my volunteer trip, you've been so generous! However another $1,500 would be amazing. Please click on the top right to donate!
